A conservative group attracts damning comparisons between Home Minority Chief Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) and the late Joseph McCarthy, the Wisconsin GOP senator who fueled anti-communist fears within the Fifties, in its new advert.
Joseph McCarthy “deceived America, pushing a lie that our authorities was being taken over by communist spies,” says the voiceover of the 60-second video — titled “The New McCarthyism” — that was launched by the Republican Accountability Undertaking on Friday.
“He gaslit America to advance his personal political profession,” they proceed. “Now McCarthyism is again, with a brand new McCarthy. Kevin McCarthy. Similar to Joe, Kevin McCarthy is gaslighting Individuals.”
The narrator then calls out present prime Home Republican Kevin McCarthy, a staunch defender of former President Donald Trump, for shielding “white nationalists, anti-vaxxers and conspiracy theorists whereas he whitewashes Jan. 6 all to advance his political energy.”
“Joe McCarthy and Kevin aren’t so completely different,” the group, which is a part of the anti-Trump Defending Democracy Collectively group, wrote on YouTube.
During the last eight months, the group has run a number of advertisements in opposition to Trump’s enablers and GOP downplayers of the lethal U.S. Capitol riot — and continues to take care of an internet “Corridor of Disgrace” of the Trump-adoring Republicans in Congress who “can’t be trusted with energy.”
