University of Kentucky College of Medicine Receives $22M From Alumnus

The College of Kentucky’s Faculty of Drugs acquired $22 million — its second largest donation ever — from Kentucky native and UK alumnus Dr. Michael D. Rankin.

In donating the present, Rankin described his personal challenges of struggling to pay for a level as a rural scholar who dreamed of changing into a health care provider.

“UK was costly,” he advised WKYT. “… We bought a cow to pay for my first 12 months’s tuition. I don’t assume that’d be attainable now.”

That’s why he’s put greater than half of his present in direction of scholarships that concentrate on college students from underserved communities. His present will enable an extra 50 college students to enroll on the Faculty of Drugs annually. In the meantime, $10 million of his present may even go towards the development of a brand new well being training constructing.
